Beach Style ADU in Santa Cruz, CA
This is a new construction 625 square foot Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in the City of Santa Cruz. A small space by some standards, but this house has vaulted ceilings in the main common area and an open concept floor plan making it feel larger than it really is. We used scissor trusses to vault ceilings which allows for easy and affordable construction. Natural finish rustic hickory floors lend a warm feeling to the home. This home is designed for one or two people to live comfortably in, and is designed with privacy in mind for both the residents of the main dwelling and the ADU. A private covered entry with an entry foyer helps maintain privacy with the door open, and carefully placed windows help avoid awkward views from one home to the other. A french door off the kitchen leads to a private deck and garden area in back. This house was designed and built to a high standard of green building practices, and is in line for the City of Santa Cruz Green Building Award for Exceptional Design. The home was built by Howland Built Construction
